About ICT [ECDL]
What is it
The course you are taking is called the European Computer Driving License as you will see if you look throught the site it is recognised in 125 countries and is the leading qualification for basic ICT skills in the world. It is recognised by governments and bussiness' large and small around the world.
Why do it
All employers are looking for people who are skilled at using their desktop computers and in using basic office applications well. In almost any field of work at any level this experience is invaluable.
It is also a brilliant start for going further in ICT and is a gateway to further education. You will recieve a credit in your ACE certificates on completion and an NVQ level dependant on the amount you complete.
How does it work
There are seven modules one is theory and 6 are practical. To start with this term we are running over practical things which will relate to many of the modules and help you to better learn what we are going through
Later on you will see the skills you are learning match with the content accross the modules especially 1, 2, 3 and 7. The modules are listed below.
- Concepts of Information Technology (IT)
- Using the computer and managing files
- Word Processing
- Spreadsheets
- Database
- Presentation
- Information and Communication
There is also a module (module zero/0) which is an overall introduction to ICT, the aim of this is to build some very basic skills to build on and improve on and also enables me to see what level you are at.

Testing
You will go to a college in edmonton to take your tests for each module. Once you have taken your first module you have to complete the course in at three years.
