Why ilearn
There are a multitude of Opensource and Propriety e-learning solutions, so why did we decide to develop our own?
Quite simple really, we wanted it to be simple, with a low TCO and only the funtions we wanted. These functions are student tracking and grouping, figures (screenshots) easy to upload, manage and link to lessons and lessons asociated with Sylabus points to ensure full coverage.
Also and perhaps more importantly I have been given the task of taking some students at Phoenix Academy through the course, and was looking for an effective way of managing the course and keeping track of what was going on.
Its been a bit budget really so far, snatched time here and there so its not particularly great, but gareth recently started on an esol course and i think with a little work we can roll it out a bit further, it just needs a little more thought maybe some oop approaches and then we can roll it out for esol ict in a month or so then for the rest of esol after that and for future training and possibly released oss later
I have hit upon the main charachteristic of this system that i was unable to find else where. the course author can enter the sylabus first and then device lesson plans from that, thus ensuring that the entire sylabus is covered. working from the sylabus to the lessons as oppose to lessons to sylabus. of course you can still deviate from time to time but at least you know you have covered everything.
